Having the necessary information ready in advance of placing a service call will speed the process and ensure that nothing is forgotten at the last minute. These are the pieces of information that will be needed to get your appliance serviced and should be in hand when placing the service request.
Brand Name
Frigidaire, Kenmore, Whirlpool, etc.
It is important this be accurate, don't guess.
Appliance Type
Refrigerator, washer, dryer, etc.
Detailed Complaint
Be as detailed with the complaint as possible, "not working right" will not be sufficient.
Have the person most familiar with the problem place the service call.
Detailed Observation(s)
State exactly when the problem is noticed occurring. Eg.
- The washer is noisy on spin.
- The fridge makes the noise when it starts running.
- The dishwasher leaks during the drain cycle.
- The dryer doesn't heat in the permanent press cycle.
- etc.
Appliance Age
Try to estimate the age of the appliance unless it is under warranty, then see below.
Purchase Date
If there's any chance that something on the appliance will be under the manufacturer's warranty, you will need the exact purchase date. Without having the exact date handy when placing the call, warranty service may be delayed or refused altogether.
Do not rely on the dealer or manufacturer to have a record of this information on file. Even if you filled out a product registration card, some companies only use this information for marketing purposes and are not able to just look it up on their computer. Even when they can, making the service agent contact the dealer or factory first to get it may delay scheduling your service call.
Dealer's Name
The name of the store or company you purchased the appliance(s) from.
Extended Warranty
If you purchased an extended warranty for your appliance, you will need to know the name of company carrying the coverage and the expiry date. Have the contract in hand when placing any service calls.
Model and Serial Number
If you know parts will be required, these should be handy when placing the service call. They should be taken directly off the appliance and not off any literature (like an owner's manual, bill of sale, etc.) that may have come with the product.
See the Appliance411 "Model Tag Search" for help locating the model and serial number tag on your appliances.
Cross Street
The name of the nearest major road that joins the street you live on.
Buzzer Number
Security apartment buildings usually have a separate number for the lobby buzzer than the apartment number. Be sure to provide this if applicable.
We have designed a 'service call request template' that you can print out and complete in advance. This will insure that you have all the necessary information handy when placing a service call for your appliance.
